THE FIRST AERO JERSEY DESIGN WAS CALLED SPLIT SECOND When Castelli designed the first aero jersey for road racing in 2006, everyone thought we were crazy. Back then, aerodynamics was only for TTs. Performance clothing meant moisture management. And you could win the Tour de France in a loose jersey that was little more than a polyester shirt. Even our aero consultants expected limited gains, so we called the jersey Split Second, even though, as now, we thought it was worth pursuing even small gains. In the end the gains were quite substantial and we completely revolutionised the look of the professional group. We are now in the sixth major revision of our aerodynamic jersey. Each generation has become more aerodynamic and tighter-fitting. The Aero Race 6.0 benefits greatly from CFD analysis of the wake flow in the pedalling position for the positioning of the fabric and seams. It also benefits from feedback from professional cyclists, as we worked to make the jersey comfortable for their long hours of training and then racing in every possible weather condition. The 6.0 version is our most aerodynamic and comfortable Aero Race jersey ever.
